ABOUT...
If we are the sum of our experiences, then Giancarlo Anderson is a giant among us. With degrees and certificates in graphic design, audio recording, music production, illustration and jazz performance it might be easy to presume that Giancarlo is a professional student. But dig deeper into his life accomplishments and realize that he leverages his education to reach heights most can only dream about.
As a child in Colón Panama, Giancarlo was so intrigued by the rhythms of Tito Puente, Machito, Tito Rodriguez and others that by the time he moved to New York City his percussion skills were already well beyond those of his peers. To reach the pinnacle in any area, however, continual work is not optional and Giancarlo’s love for the drum has guided him down the path toward perpetual improvement.
So what has he done? It's a long list, but the abbreviated version has him on no fewer than 30 recordings including three Grammy nominated works by Bobby Sanabria and Poncho Sanchez. He has played Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center. He has recorded TV commercials and documentaries and he's appeared at many of the prestigious US jazz festivals as a member Poncho Sanchez’ Latin Jazz Band. Most importantly, though, Giancarlo is an incredible human being.
Currently based in Southern California, Giancarlo earned a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies and Performance from California State University-Fullerton. Aside from his busy schedule with Poncho Sanchez and freelance recording, he spent time sharing his talent with others.
